How-Tos: Choose Bedroom Furniture

Date

A bedroom is a place of relaxation; the place where you rest, reflect on your day, watch a show in peace or read a book – the bedroom is an individual or couple’s personal space. When styling a bedroom, you want to keep it as spacious and clutter-free as possible, you want to go to bed at night and wake up in the morning feeling relaxed and refreshed. As in any room, a clean and clutter-free environment is key to creating positive, relaxed vibes!

Bedroom Furniture 1: Bed

Whether you have a smaller-sized bedroom or a larger room with an attached ensuite and walk-in robe, there are some basic things that never change. The first and most critical item of any bedroom is the bed. While obvious, it’s often hard to find the perfect one. Beds are very much a personal preference, so before buying a new bed, make sure you test drive many different types at your local bed retailer. You are going to be spending hours with this bed every night, so it’s important to choose one that is right for you – if you have a good sleep, you are going to be a more positive and happier person.

The size of your bed is also very important. Choosing the right size bed for the room is one of the most important selections for us when we are styling a house. You want to have plenty of room for sleeping, but you also need plenty of space to move around your room with ease.

Bedroom Furniture 2: Bedside Table

Next is choosing the right bedside tables. For a single or king single bed, one bedside table is sufficient and two bedside tables are recommended for double, queen or king beds. The key is to make sure the bedside table is not too tall for your bed – you don’t want to be reaching up for your glass of water in the middle of the night and knock it over!

What about all your clothes? Fitting all your clothes into your wardrobe is ideal as this will create more space in your room. We would opt for an internal wardrobe redesign to achieve this rather than getting an additional chest of drawers. However, if you need to get a chest of drawers, bigger is not always better. Select a chest of drawers that just fits your clothes so you’re not cluttering your room.

Bedroom Furniture 3: Armchair, plants, etc.

Finally, if there is space, add a plant and an armchair. After making your bed, the last thing you want to do is sit on it to put on your shoes, so having an armchair in your room helps provide that place to sit. Adding a plant creates a nice energy and has many benefits for your health.

Most importantly, choosing furniture that you like, that fits your room and is comfortable will ensure you enjoy your bedroom, relax and have a good night’s sleep.
